Chapter 41
“Fei’er, are you trying to get yourself killed?”
Behind me, Lian Qi’s voice was filled with shock.
I can hear it… is she nervous about me?
“It’s fine. The Heaven’s Condemnation System seems to have filtered me out. Probably because I’m using Holy Light, not magic?”
I freed my left hand, reaching behind me to clasp her hand, reassuring her. At the same time, my grip on the hammer in my right hand tightened.
That blast just now… my hand is still numb.
I didn’t expect the Heaven’s Condemnation System to be this powerful. Similarly, Einstein probably didn’t expect me to be able to block that attack.
“In my understanding, the Saintess shouldn’t possess this kind of power. This is too far beyond common sense.”
I faced Einstein directly. “Is that so? Today, I will teach you a lesson in the name of the Holy Light.”
Einstein couldn’t help but laugh.
“With just that hammer in your hand? Hoho… hohoho! In the name of the Holy Light… and the Holy Light only gave you a hammer?”
Is it really that funny?
Seeing him laugh so happily, what could I say? I could only laugh along, let go of Lian Qi’s hand, and walked toward him, step by step, hammer in hand.
Don’t be fooled by Einstein’s disdainful words. He wasn’t being careless. While laughing, the staff in his hand was already charging.
It seems the beam’s power increases with charging time. I have no confidence I can block the next attack.
But I absolutely cannot retreat. I can only go forward.
“Farewell, Saintess.” Einstein raised his glowing staff and aimed it at me!
The staff flashed. The beam shot at me, scraping the ground, carving a deep trench as it came. I subconsciously raised my hammer to block!
BANG—!
In the intense light, everything turned white. The impact force slammed the hammer into my chest. I almost lost my grip.
I grit my teeth and held onto the hammer, that force pushing me all the way back, my boots screeching as they dragged across the ground.
With a soft thud, I crashed into Lian Qi’s embrace, and the impact was finally offset.
I looked down at the hammer. Its pure white surface was steaming.
I… I actually blocked it?
I let out a deep sigh of relief. While breaking out in a cold sweat for myself, I was also grateful that Lian Qi was there to catch me.
“Are you okay??”
“I’m fine,” I said, unconcerned. My gaze shifted to Einstein. Was he… scared by my expression? He took a step back, incredulous.
“You… you can even block that?” His tone was as if I shouldn’t be alive, as if I were a zombie.
I temporarily left Lian Qi, silently lifting my hammer and continuing to walk toward him.
I saw the hand he was holding his staff with… was trembling slightly. I never thought… even he could panic.
“In any case, the Heaven’s Condemnation System’s magic is endless. Let’s see how many more attacks you can block—”
The moment he spoke, the magic tower projected its beam onto the staff’s mana crystal prism.
He won’t get his way!
The instant his staff began to charge, I threw my hammer, making it spin!
BANG—!
The hammer flew over and collided with the beam… and somehow, it just exploded! As the sound rang out, Einstein retreated from the smoke, coughing. He let out a surprised “Ah!”—the staff in his hand… only half of it remained.
And I… walked over, picked up my hammer, and with a light swing, dispersed the smoke around me.
Then, I faced him coldly.
“What… in the world… is that hammer?”
What, does my hammer make him doubt his life? I said faintly, “It’s just a hammer I transmuted for playing whack-a-mole.”
“Whack-a-mole? Don’t be ridiculous.” He glanced at the broken staff in his hand and threw it away in annoyance. Then, he took something… like a fountain pen… from his pocket.
I stared at it warily. What’s that?
“Actually, I specially prepared this, just to deal with this kind of situation.”
I watched him press the red button on the “pen” with his thumb. Is that… a controller? The next second, the ground began to shake. The floor behind him opened up.
A behemoth slowly rose from the hidden compartment under the floor. This form… could it be a Dragon-person? Its silver-gray metallic luster told me it wasn’t a living thing, but a construct.
Its metal claws lifted Einstein up into the cockpit in its chest. After the cockpit’s shell closed, its eyes flashed red—and its entire body, from head to tail, activated!
“What the, is that a dragon-shaped mech?” Lian Qi said.
Einstein’s voice came from inside the dragon-mech—
“Children, did you really think I built those power generators just to fool those volunteers? In truth… I had the volunteers generate power for me… to provide electricity for this “Dragon Knight”!”
“Dragon Knight?”
“So you were hiding this purpose, too?” Lian Qi said coldly.
I saw many thick cables connected to the Dragon Knight’s back, endlessly supplying it with electricity! It crackled, discharging currents from time to time.
“As long as I have the Dragon Knight and the Heaven’s Condemnation System, I am invincible.”
With that, it raised its dragon claw and swiped at me.
My-first’s voice sounded from behind me—
“Fei’er! Get behind it! And cut the cables! Without electricity, it can’t move—!”
At the same time, I raised my hammer and smashed it head-on!
The sound of the collision drowned out Lian Qi’s voice. This clash… actually created a shockwave that spread in all directions, making my hair fly up.
I was in a fierce stalemate with the Dragon Knight, which was several times my height.
I understand what Lian Qi is saying, but…
There are so many cables. Cutting all of them won’t be that easy—
I burst out with all my strength and forcefully smashed the dragon claw in two.
The Dragon Knight stared at its own sparking, severed arm. Einstein, piloting it, seemed too shocked to speak.
“You think you’re safe hiding in there?”
I swung my hammer, spinning 180 degrees, and with devastating force, knocked both of the Dragon Knight’s legs clean off. It was so fast, for a moment it was suspended in the air, discovered its legs were gone, and then— CRASH!
It lost its balance and fell heavily to the ground!
I jumped onto its body with my hammer, aimed for its chest, and smashed down, shattering the cockpit. I pulled Einstein out.
When the Dragon Knight fell, his head had hit the ground and was bleeding.
“Stop the Heaven’s Condemnation System! Now!” I commanded, grabbing him by the collar.
Einstein looked at me weakly and squeezed out a smile.
“Child… you’re still too young. If you want to destroy the Heaven’s Condemnation System… you have to destroy the Mana Furnace.”
“Fine. Then I don’t need you. I have Lian Qi.” I threw him onto a pile of junk and walked back toward Lian Qi.
“It’s useless,” Einstein threw cold water at my back. “If she wants to destroy the Heaven’s Condemnation System’s magic matrix, she must use magic. And using magic… will get her targeted by the Heaven’s Condemnation System.”
I ignored him and returned to Lian Qi’s side. As I walked toward her with my hammer, she rushed over to meet me, so we met halfway.
“Lian Qi, go ahead and destroy the Heaven’s Condemnation System’s magic matrix. As for the beams… I’ll block them for you.”
